Dong Haichuan - Original Tomb Stele (1883) - Poster Set

€39.00

Own a rare piece of Baguazhang history.

This exclusive poster set features high-quality reprints of original rubbings taken from the very first stele erected at the grave of Dong Haichuan—the illustrious founder of Baguazhang—when he was laid to rest. The stele, erected in 1883 by his disciples, is a double-sided monument rich in history and legacy.

  • The Yang Side (Front): A poetic inscription celebrating Dong Haichuan’s life and achievements.

  • The Yin Side (Back): A heartfelt eulogy written upon his passing, along with a listing of his senior and junior disciples.

These rubbings were made shortly after the stele’s excavation and restoration in the early 1980s, a project spearheaded by my grandteacher, Li Ziming. After the turmoil of the Cultural Revolution, Dong Haichuan’s tomb had fallen into ruin, with the stele buried under a tomato field outside Dongzhimen, Beijing. Li Ziming was instrumental in uniting the Baguazhang community to restore and relocate the tomb to Wan’an Cemetery, where it stands today.

Only a few rubbings of the original stele were ever made. The set used for these posters was carefully preserved by my martial aunt, Li Xiuren, passed down from her father. With her permission, I rephotographed and recomposed the full mounted rubbing, including the original seals of the person who made the rubbing, Li Jinming, and to whom this set belonged, master Wang Qichang.

This set includes:

  • Two large-format art posters: One for the front (Yang) and one for the back (Yin) side of the stele rubbing.

  • Two English translation documents, which I have personally translated, presenting the original inscriptions in clear and respectful modern English. (Full Color - A5 Size)

Display this timeless piece of Baguazhang heritage in your home or martial arts school, and preserve the spirit and lineage of our tradition.

NOTE:

  • The watermark seen on the images in the product previews here are not on the final product, which is clear and unobstructed.
