Straight Sword (Jian) - Traditional Wooden Custom Made (Red Sandalwood)
Crafted from high-quailty Chinese red sandalwood, commonly known as Zi Tan (紫檀), this wooden Jian provides the rigidity and substantial feeling required for traditional sword practice. Its natural weight gives it handling characteristics closer to those of a metal sword, making it an excellent choice for traditiional training. Chinese red sandalwood is an exceptionally dense and hard wood, giving the Jian a substantial weight, excellent rigidity and a solid handling quality well suited to traditional solo practice.
Unlike simpler wooden training swords with thin, flat blades, this Jian has been expertly shaped to reproduce the structure and appearance of a traditional metal blade. The blade has a substantial thickness and a diamond-shaped cross-section, with a defined central ridge running along both sides. This carefully formed profile gives the Jian the appearance and structural feeling of a genuine sword while demonstrating exceptional attention to detail.
The blade is also engraved with the characters for “Mu Shin” in traditional script, and the handguard has an engravnig of a traditional Chinese guardian lion’s face on it.
The wooden construction provides a practical alternative for martial artists living in countries where the ownership, importation, transportation or public use of metal swords, including blunt training swords, may be restricted. It is particularly useful for regular practice in training halls, schools, parks and other environments where using a metal sword may be prohibited, inappropriate or likely to cause concern.
It is available in several sizes, allowing practitioners to select a sword appropriate to their height and training requirements.

As Zi Tan is naturally rich in oils, a small amount may occasionally rise to the surface of the wood. This is completely normal and can simply be wiped away with a clean, soft, dry cloth.
Although made from wood, this is a rigid martial arts training weapon with a pointed tip and is not a toy. It must be handled responsibly and practised with adequate space, control and awareness of other people.
Laws governing training weapons vary between jurisdictions. Customers are responsible for checking local regulations concerning purchase, importation, ownership, transportation and use prior to ordering.
